Asylum decision makers work directly with people seeking asylum. They play an important role
in offering protection to the most vulnerable and refusing those who do not qualify, ensuring
effective immigration control and keeping the UK safe and secure.
The work that you undertake is life-changing and in order to achieve your best you will be
supported, coached and mentored by an experienced team and given full training enabling you
to make considered, timely and fair decisions made in line with Home Office policy, guidance
and with reference to relevant country information and case law.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the role you must fulfil the following criteria.
Be eligible to work in the UK. This is a non-reserved post and is open to
UK, Commonwealth and European Economic Area (EEA) and certain non- EEA
nationals (see further information).
Be able to provide ALL of the documents we need to complete your
pre-employment screening and security clearance including a full and valid
passport which MUST be presented at Interview.
Please note: Candidates who do not have a passport at the time of Interview can
still attend and be interviewed but will need to provide a current photo driving
licence or a recent passport-sized photo, along with the other documents. You
must provide a valid UK passport before we can make an offer of employment.
Candidates will be subject to UK
immigration requirements as well as Civil
Service nationality rules. Please be aware that foreign or dual nationality is
not an
automatic bar. However certain posts may have restrictions which could affect
those who do not have sole British nationality or who have personal connections
with certain countries outside the UK.
Security Clearance
This post requires you to undergo and successfully complete a CTC (Counter
Terrorist Check) level of security clearance and you should normally have been
resident in the UK for three years continuously immediately preceding your
application. If you have lived or worked outside of the UK for more than 6
months you may not meet the residency test. Those who are married to persons
with immigration restrictions may be refused security clearance.
